Tigers Rumors: Strieby, Murphy, Polanco, FAs

December 5, 2011
  • Ryan Strieby was outrighted to Triple A and he could till be a low average, power bat with enough pop to stick in the majors at best or Mike Hessman at worst but if he isn’t picked up big another team he could still make it and be good.  he needs to work on a few things though before he can be good and with his age he was the right guy to outright.
  • The Tigers and Mets are discussing a deal that would send Andy Dirks and maybe a prospect to the Mets for Daniel Murphy and though I like dirks a lot, Murphy is better and should have a better career plus I think he’d be a great fit and acquisition nd the Tigers would have the deg in this deal.  If it’s not completed I’ll be very happy with Andy Dirks.  The Mets see Dirks as a potential Angel Pagan replacement and I say that Dirks may be better in New York and might be a great Met.  Murphy would have some great seasons with the Tigers
  • The Phillies are shopping Placido Polanco and the Tigers should go after him, he’s just what they need and he could be a great second or third baseman for the Tigers and he has one more productive season and probably another with the Tigers.  He will do what he did for them before and he does the small stuff the Tigers need.  Is ay go get him to Detroit.
  • The Tigers aren’t sure about Mark Buehrle or coco Crisp.  Crisp had a low OBP last season and that does have a chance at continuing and even though I like Crisp and he’s probably a good fit, the Tigers should pass.  They should go get Buehrle if they can though but if they miss out it’s no big deal

Phillies sign Castillo, but is he a real help?

March 20, 2011

NEW LINE-UP
SS Jimmy Rollins
CF Shane Victorino
3B Placido Polanco
1B Ryan Howard
LF Raul Ibanez
RF Ben Francisco
C Carlos Ruiz
2B Luis Castillo
It will actually work at the top because Victorino can do more hitting higher up and Rollins is a great guy to hit in the leadoff position for now.  Polanco will also be productive in the three hole and he will get more RBIs and help the team in RISP.  When you get to the bottom though it could be a bit easy at times which hurts but at other times it will do just fine.  They need Brown and Utley back quickly to try to pull away though.
CASTILLO: He could do better in Philly and you actually might see some more pop in him and with a fresh start on a good team and a good hitting park he could do very good at the beginning.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t though and you can only expect a .260 average from him with not as much production.  He will do better than Valdez and he can play defense okay but at times he will still slump and he will never be really good again.  I think he can only help to a certain extent but when Utley comes back he should make a great back-up.  He will hit sometimes too, so I think it is what the Phillies had to do and I think they had no better options so it should pay off, for now.

Polanco or Granderson: Who will be missed more?

December 18, 2009

I think both Placido Polanco and Curtis Granderson will both be missed a lot this year and beyond but Polanco was more important.  Granderson was great and should still do well against the Tigers but Polanco has a charm that helps the Tigers win.  I think he did everything the Tigers didn’t have and he won’t be replaced easy.  Granderson can because Austin Jackson is a mold of him.  Granderson did lead off well for the Tigers but he had his bad sides and he won’t hit very well, Polanco will hit better.  Polanco has better values and used them best for this team he also was doing better.  Losing both will hurt them but losing Polanco could hurt them for a long time.

Polanco signs with Phillies

December 3, 2009

Placido Polanco has signed with the Philadelphia Phillies.  Polanco will hit better in that park and has a shot for 20 homers.  He will give this team something they need.  A lot more hits.  With him they could compete with the Yankees.  They are a stacked team and are going to do well.  Al there players add up.  The only thing that concerns me is Polanco at third, but even if hurts the Phillies it won’t hurt them hugely.  Polanco gets better on this team, mostly because of his protection.  Polanco will see improvements in his numbers and should have a great stint with the Phils.  Hitting NL pitching should come right back to him and I would look for a few torrid months form him.  Don’t expect any Gold Gloves at third for sure though.
TIGERS:  With Polanco gone the Tigers should rebuild.  Taking him away ruins this offense, for a bout a year and if they stand pat they will have a losing record.  Polanco not being on this team probably takes away a run a game.  He would start it up every game and do to him leaving this offense should slow down a bit.  They still have some of the right guys to power it though.  Scott Sizemore could play in a mold of Polanco but not for a few years.

Polanco a Tiger in 2010?

January 26, 2009

Dave Dombroski knows Placido Polanco is a free agent after the 2009 season but he isn’t in negotions with Polanco.  The only prospects the Tigers have are Scott Sizemore who doesn’t hit or defend as well as Polanco, but is a nice hitter and isn’t a bad defender.  Danny Worth is a shortstop who can play second base but I think Sizemore is better than him.  Worth has a problem with average but is a gap hitter who can rack up extra base hits, he’s a better shortstop though.  Will Rhymes is a good player who has a ton of potential in my book, he gets hits, hits for a good average and is speedy.  The only concern is his defensive errors, he had 17,20,21, and 20 so he might let you down on defense more than Sizemore or Worth.  But I want the Tigers to at least give him one more year because he is a clutch player who gets hits and plays awesome defense he is a textbook ballplayer and number two hitter, getting Polanco has helped a lot and the one time he got hurt the Tigers fell into a slump that’s how important he is to this club and it would be a shame to let another AL team get a hold of him because he would kill the Tigers.  Another plus about Polanco is that he strikes out less than anyone in the American League and he goes out their and makes spectacular plays.  Polanco is a true all-star who leads teams.

Tigers in 2010 with prospects

December 8, 2008

Here is a look at my projected 2010 Tigers roster with no moves and just prospects coming up

Catcher: Brandon Inge

First Base: Miguel Cabrera

Second Base: Placido Polanco

Shortstop: Cale Iorg

Third Base: Jeff Larish

Left Field: Carlos Guillen

Center Field: Curtis Granderson

Right Field: Wilkin Ramirez

Designated Hitter: Magglio Ordonez

That is a great all-around offense that could put up league leading numbers and guide this team to a World Series.  Cabrera for 2010 AL MVP

Now the bench

  1. Matt Joyce OF
  2. Ramon Santiago INF
  3. Marcus Thames OF
  4. Dusty Ryan C (Miguel Montero or Gerald Laird could be a starter and Inge back-up, if a deal is struck)
  5. Ryan Raburn UTIL (Will compete for roster spots with Joyce)

A nice bench can help you all-around in any situation, just ask the Rays or Alexis Gomez.

Starting Rotation

  1. Justin Verlander
  2. Jeremy Bonderman
  3. Armando Galarraga
  4. Rick Porcello
  5. Casey Crosby

A nice young rotation, full of future All-Stars is just the right way to cap up a graet offense and defense these guys should nail down batters while Verlander, Bonderman, and Galarraga goes for a Cy Young and Porcello and Crosby for a Rookie Of The Year.

Bullpen

Long man: Cody Satterwhite

Middle Reliever: Fernando Rodney

Lefty Specialist: Bobby Seay

7th inning guy: Joel Zumaya

Setup Man: Freddy Dolsi (Will get lots of holds as a Setup Man)

Closer: Ryan Perry

This bullpen will shut down hitters in blowouts or in close games.  It is an Excellent bullpen, one of the best I’ve seen in awhile.

OVERALL: A world series winner type of team and most players on this roster are under 30!  Good Detoit baseball for years to come.
