Tigers Playoffs Predicitions

September 30, 2012

The Tigers are going to win at least 1 of 3 in Kansas City to win the division and even if somehow a playoff is forced, which is a 1 in 1,000 chance at this point or at least it feels like it, Justin Verlander will start at Comerica Park.  this isn’t 2009 though the Tigers aren’t choking and the Twins arent surging, it’s quite the opposite.  The White Sox are choking in an epic way and the Tigers keep getting stronger and this team has played all of the playoff teams well, so they do have a decent shot in the postseason and I think they can at least make the ALCS and will be happy if they do but here is my predictions of how they would do in a 5 game series against any of the teams they could possibly face in the ALDS as they will be the three seed, so games 3 and 4 would be at home just like 2006 or 2011 for the Tigers.  In the playoffs the pitching staff looks very strong and this team can score runs and get wins.  I can see the Tigers closing the season with a bang too and Cabrera, Fielder and Young getting really hot.  The Tigers are 11-4 against the Royals this year and 11-1 if you take out the three game sweep where the Tigers just couldn’t play well.
Vs. Baltimore: Tigers in 5, they win games 1,3, and 5
Vs. Yankees: Tigers in 4, they win 1,3 and 4
Vs. Athletics: Tigers in 3
Vs. Rangers: Rangers in 5, Tigers win 3 and 4

These predictions are sunject to chaneg as all predictions about baseball always are

Do The Rays Have A Shot?

September 27, 2012

The Rays are hot and are now a notorious team to make a comeback led by Evan Longoria and the pitching staff.  I think they will win 3 of 4 in Chicago after today’s great performance and I’d put their playoffs chances for what O think personally at over 50%.  The Rays offense needs to perk up even more though and Zobrist and Longoria have to lead it while Fuld, Jennings and Upton make a difference because the Rays will have good pitching for the last 6 games like they always do and by the time it gets to the seventh inning their bullpen can save it out for them but the offense needs to score 4 or 5 runs at least each game and the Rays have to win out.  2 games are hard at this point but it’s a little easier with this team because a lot of them were part of the comeback last year.  If they do make the playoffs this year I can see the Rays riding their winning streak even more.  They have to sweep Baltimore and keep them within two games or it is likely over for the Rays.  In a playoff I can see the Rays winning that and making it to the ALDS.  These Rays are another team that could possibly go down in history.  Price should have a huge start his last outing of the year.

Can the Tigers win if they make it to the ALDS?

September 24, 2012

The Tigers have had a disappointing season to what expectation were, but they find themselves one game out of the division lead, but if they win it can they be one of those teams that makes an improbable run, like a team does once every year or two, or will they be a team that is easy to beat.  I think they can be a team that makes a run, because they weren’t supposed to be a team that surprised everybody.  These guys can make it in the playoffs with their talent, and I think with their youth they benefit from playing hard everyday and going into the playoffs as opposed to resting their best players if they clinched early.  I also love the pitching staff.  I think Verlander will lead the staff and improve upon his last season’s postseason performance.  Doug Fister pitches great later in the year and provide some heroics in the playoffs this year.  Max Scherzer is hot and has swing and miss stuff, and Anibal Sanchez is getting better and better now.  Porcello and Smyly could be useful arms out of the bullpen too.  Cabrera would just continue on his performance he will just help.  Their isn;t enough I can say for how much of a chance this team has to win, especially right now, even in the middle of the race.

Brewers: No Playoffs or 2011 Cardinals Repeat ?

September 19, 2012

The Brewers have fought their way back into the postseason picture in the past month and now sit just two games out of a spot that would match them up against the Braves in a wild card showdown.  The Brewers are this years Cardinals.  They have a team lead by a superstar with some talented hitters and a pitching staff that is solid.  Importantly they are coached very well and believe they can pass the Cardinals in the next weeks, and at this pace they will.  I wasn’t sold on this team but beating out the Pirates the last few days has helping my confidence in the Brewers to go up and if they do end up making the playoffs they will have a sneaky pitching staff lead by Yovani Gallardo.  The Shaun Marcum, a guy who can get a win would start.  Behind him you have two guys who have quietly broken out this year in Mike Fiers and Marco Estrada and they could be tough guys to face.  The Brewers could make a run if they stay hot and their least six games could point them in that dircetion, but first they need to take at least 4, if not 5 games from the Reds and Nationals and play them tough.  If they can do this they could be just like last years Cardinals and though the teams are different, the similarities are there.

Are The Tigers Done?

September 17, 2012

Right now, a website that I love Baseball Prospectus has the Tigers at a 36% chance.  The Tigers haven;t been as consistent as they wanted to be this year and have had some bad luck.  Next year, I thin bringing back Victor Martinez will make a huge difference, but this year they have 16 games to make up 3 games to force at playoff at Comerica, which I’d take them in and they have a great chance at forcing it.  The reason being that leads bigger have been blown in shorter amounts of time and the Tigers schedule favors them heavily against the Sox who still have to go out west to face the Angels and play the Rays.  The Tigers have more talent too, they just need to capitalize on White Sox losses, because if they don’t do that, they’re season is over for sure.  This week the Tigers need to win the series against the A’s and sweep the Twins.  If the Tigers can do that, they are in business for sure and the pitching is there, the bullpen just needs to hold up better than the opponents, which is hard this time a year, but with all the Tigers power arms they can do it.  The offense needs to start scoring 5 or kore runs too.  If they can do this 75-80% of their last 16 games, the Tigers chances skyrocket.  I’m picked the Tigers in the AL Central and I’m sticking with them.

Tigers Notes: How to win the divison in 2012

September 11, 2012

The Tigers can still win the AL Central in 2012 and defend their crown form 2011, though it isn’t as easy this year.  The Tigers have to take it one game at a time.  That situation is very true for this situation.  Their pitching is fine with Fister, Scherzer, and Verlander all being aces in the staff this year.  The offense just needs to score runs, and even if they are just enough they need to spread their runs out and score enough to win games.  If they improve in one run games that makes this team even stronger.  The offense will perk up to Miguel Cabrera, prince Fielder and Delmon Young will be great in the middle, the end guys just have to get a few RBIs each game and improve, which may be the hardest thing out of this teams needs list.  The Tigers should be fine they need to take at least 2 from the White Sox though and then only lose 3-4 against the teams they should beat and the A’s.  If the Tigers make the playoffs anything can happen, and the Tigers are a strong playoff team with talent and experience along with an overall ability to get hot and win.  Things are only looking u from here for the Tigers.  Another thing is to utilize the players on the bench the right way and pinch run Berry, bring in Santiago at short after the seventh or eighth to play defense sometimes, and using Garcia in the line-up and bigger situations.
